نوزادان مستعد ابتلا به عفونتهای مختلف هستند که بسیاری از آنهاکاملا جدی و تهدید کننده حیات می باشند. عفونت شامل 30% مرگ و میر نوزادی و حدود 50 درصد مرگ میر در 24 ساعت اول پس از تولد است
